Sarah and I live in Granola, USA (aka Austin TX) and are committed to the environment. We are incorporating many "green" elements into our Wedding and Reception such as recycled material invitations, solar batteries for night time lighting, erasing the carbon footprint of our guests travel and accommodations, renting a bio-diesel fueled limousine (this one is stretching it as a limo is not that eco-friendly bio fueled or not...hey wait, stretching it...limo, pun!) and having only locally sourced organic food including the cake. I am even trying to track down a suit made from recycled PET bottles available from ecogir but it is only in test markets in New Jersey.
Are any of you guys doing similar things?
Yeah, I just mentioned in my other reply that that's a huge part of what we're doing. Local sourcing wherever possible, crafting rather than purchasing, and several green websites. Solar and photovoltaics will be prominent, yes, probably wedding compost as well. Also finding green rated accomodations in the area (as well as couch allocations), and pushing public transport, especially in this city, and encouraging walking and biking.
Wedding correspondence will all be handled electronically apart from a one-way invitation, single recycled card with no inlay and eco-inks, all terrapassed.

We are also trying to be as eco-friendly as possible. We're having the ENTIRE event outside, using the natural light to our advantage. We're hoping to have some acoustic music and we want to use reusable utensils for food and whatnot. Not necessarily renting or buying anything, but recycled materials are always key.
We've taken a few steps in this direction in terms of using recycled materials, but not on the level that you're going to. It's a good idea, and something I wish we'd thought through more - we have a venue and so on, and so that will restrict what we can do a bit. One of the things we are doing is giving out a list of charities and organizations that people can donate to instead of buying us stuff that we don't really need.
The venue that we are holding both the wedding and reception at is on a state park and the building is built entirely from reclaimed wood and limestone - and the cost of renting the venue goes to the upkeep of the park and educational programs.
At one point I was trying to find a solar battery cart but could not. I emailed the GreenBrideGuide because I saw one on one of their featured weddings. I never was able to secure the cart but they did email us afterwards and ask to feature our wedding!
Ok, this is version 2.0.. well ok I have made several, haha, but this is the second one you get to see. I did a lot more thinking, talked about colors with my love and we settled on 3. Deep purples, mocha brown, and a rich yellow. This mixes some ...
You could consider specially made wrist bands. Rather than a small wring on the finger, a band made from say, metal or leather or both. Designed in ways unique and special to the two of you. You could even, if you were both very DIY, delve into me...
My lady and I were thinking a western ranch and spa. The idea would be by doing enough DIY and such we could afford to splurge a bit on a nice stay at a ranch which include meals, etc, activities and also a spa. I first saw the idea, the modern on...
Just a thought, that could potentially save lots of money, and rather easy.
Given the techno age we are in (hooray!) many people, many of your friends and family probably own digital camera's, and will probably bring them to the wedding. An idea ...
