so what are you doing for honeymoons? Are your folks paying for it? see, we're going away to argentina in february, and then also burning man just amonth after our wedding, so we thought maybe not such a big-deal international honeymoon in the face of all that. But maybe just mexico is the latest winner.
What do you guys reckon honeymoons are like? It's a pretty good excuse to get the honeymoon suite in a hotel. Never done that one before.
The honeymoon suite in the best western, Akron, OH. Woohoo. Reminds me of watching gameshows when I was little at my grandmother's house. Sometimes on wheel of fortune, people would win some seriously dumb shit. I remember one time, whatshisname announced with grand flourish, "Illinois!!!" and I thought, who the hell wants to gp to illinois? Not exactly tahiti if you know what I mean.
There are these sockingly beautiful beaches in southwest mexico, been there before once, a tiny surf village, San augustinio. Might have to go there. pretty splendid.
This is zipolite, a slightly bigger surf town nearby.
I thought about this the other day, too. I've heard all kinds of stories, from japanese love-hotel hopping to burning man to diving your way around the greater Antilles. Hell, my cousin podcasted their trip around the world. http://www.sarahlane.com/main/podcast/podcast.html
There's plenty I want to do out there, plenty left to see. Japan tops my list as a teacher, digger and swordsman, India hers. But there's plenty of my own country to see, also.
The journey, obviously, is its own reward. One needn't really go far.
Honestly, I have yet to put my finger on what I think a honeymoon actually is. Every trip we've ever taken has been special because we've been together; bigger and more expansive trips won't change the way we approach being somewhere else.
We are also allergic to just being somewhere. We need to get it between our fingertips, between our lips, under our nails. We're both like that, we always have been.
I guess it's the trip where every single day, you find your hands full of everything you never realized you wanted.
My partner and I are going to Mexico. Her dad and stepmom have a timeshare, and as their wedding present to us they let us pick anywhere we wanted out of their timeshare book to stay for a week -- pretty amazing present!
We found an eco-friendly resort south of Tulum really close to Mayan ruins we're going to be staying out. It's an all-inclusive resort, so we won't have to worry about saving money up for the honeymoon, they're extremely eco-friendly, and the all-inclusive food is extremely vegan-friendly which were huge bonuses for us. We're also debating renting a car while we're there to take a side-trip to Belize and spend some time down there, or visit friends in Oaxaca. It should be quite an adventure!
Before we found out about that though, our plan was to just take a week-long road trip to wherever we felt like going that day. No planning, no nothing. Just close the shop for a week and go whereever we felt like it. Probably via motorcycle and probably tent-camping the whole time knowing the two of us, haha. We might just have to do that sometime anyway even if it's not a 'honeymoon'.

sounds cool! Only thing is, Oaxaca's a hell of a long drive from Tulum. If you only have a week, I wouldn't do it. Fly. We're going to Oaxaca! Then to the southwest coast. It'll be lovely. And then wrap it up and get married again at Burning Man.
Yeah. Trips just because. To somewhere. Camping. Doesn't have to be a honeymoon to be cool. Looking forward to doing some of the same.
We are flying to Rome and then driving for a few days hitting a few spots on our way to San Vinceno to do a 5 day farm stay at a place called Costa Etrusca. It is on the coast. We thought agritourism would be a relaxing way to spend the last few days of our holiday. Her parents are paying for our flight and stay.
well we have not made exact plans as of yet. but we deffinitly can not go right after the wedding... :(
but we are thinking of several places. i would love to go to Boundry Waters Canoe Area (went for many years as a kid) in northern Minisota but that is intense camping.... not really the honeymoon type deal... but its also us. lol
we have also checked out some cabin's around the eastern shore that we could rent for a while.
and tied for first place with BWCA is the Zion national park in Utah.... if you have not heard of the place check it out. its absolutly beautiful out there!
we have thought about going to a place like Sandals, or something like that... but that does not really fit us.
so those are the ideas we are throwing around. wont happen for a little while though...
My lady and I were thinking a western ranch and spa. The idea would be by doing enough DIY and such we could afford to splurge a bit on a nice stay at a ranch which include meals, etc, activities and also a spa. I first saw the idea, the modern ones, on the travel channel, haha.
I will try and dig up the link to some. Basically, it is in the US, so you save a tiny bit on travel if you are already in the US (I am not now but the wedding will be) but if like us you have never been West (or east for that matter if you ar already on the west coast) then it means seeing a part of our country that is quite different. Outdoor activity combined with luxury accommodations and spa resources, sounds great to us. We can hike, horse back, get a bit dirty, and come back and be pampered together. :)
Hello fellow soon to be married men-
So I have a bit of an issue...
My family, is about as conservative as they come. They are also, EXTREMELY outspoken about it. I'm already catching immense flak from the point that we're not getting hitched in...
